Canada

Canada has been ranked as 14 of 149 of the happiest countries in the world. Canadian skateboarders will always be number one in our books.

Skateboards For Hope could not exist without its most loyal ally, the Montreal skateboard community. Since 2005, skaters have answered the call to action to donate their prized skateboards, whether used, abused, blemished, warped and even broken (7000 to date).

We even received hundreds of decks from across our Nation, from Vancouver to Newfoundland and everywhere in-between. These pieces of wood encased with dented trucks and gnarly wheels have been the most precious commodity here at SFH.

Through solidarity, community-building, and power in numbers, these communities pave the way towards a more inclusive Canadian skate scene.

Montreal skaters are very much engaged, and you can find thousands of skaters on and off the Island of Montreal involved in collecting, refurbishing and even distributing recycled skateboards. One thing is sure, all skateboarders will share their passion with anyone interested.

During the pandemic, much of the community, including skate shop owners, stepped up their efforts to donate their used gear. We received more skateboards during the quarantine than pre-covid, and we had to get creative with shipping when the airlines were sent to the boneyard. We adapted by turning to land and ocean freight and, in the process, donated skateboards to a new destination, Bull Bay in Jamaica and Zambia on the African continent.

Rest assured that our 50 Canadian ambassadors spread across Canada have been busy on social media supporting the SFH mission to empower youth. Once the weather picked up, hoards of Canadians suffering from winter fatigue shredded down lonely stairwells and unoccupied concrete building ledges with enthusiasm.

You just have to check the videos, TikToks and stories on any skater’s account.

We are so excited for all that 2021 has in store for us – enthusiasm and anticipation are building around new opportunities.

You are impacting the lives of children here and wherever we donate your skateboards. Thank you for your continued support!
